Bio
While enduring the angst that accompanies teenage life, Ria discovered her talent for poetry writing and used this as an avenue of self-expression and the journaling of her thoughts. Throughout her twenties Ria was an active member of the karaoke community, performing frequently at club venues participating in and receiving accolades in various competitions.
It was not until late 2008 that Ria’s poetic writings and passion for singing merged. This new incarnation of earnest expression came about with the deeply saddening passing, of her beloved father, for whom her first song was written. He was at the very end of his battle with cancer and Ria who had believed without a doubt, up until then, that he would pull through, finally scrummed to the fact that their time together was close to its end. She hadn’t anticipated the coming of that day, a thought so remotely placed beneath her sunshiny personality and her positive attitude of ‘All will be okay’, that the reality she now faced had never been entertained.
There was so much Ria still needed to say. So she lay beside him on his deathbed with her head on his chest, unaware of how to start communicating all that she held in her heart and she listened carefully to his heartbeat, which inadvertently, created the tempo for her words she would speak. She remained there throughout the night singing to him, singing the story of his life, reminding him how much he was loved and how his love had touched so many lives. Letting him go by letting him know that it was okay for him to leave, sending him off with her song of blessings and peace for his journey. Ria sang to him until everything in her heart was released, unaware that her song had continued far beyond the echo of his last heartbeat.
